Inspiration

Rising above the rest of the forest, the emergent layer consists of enormous evergreen trees that have weathered the tests of time. Sunlight is abundant; the trees are home to colorful wildlife like parrots, hummingbirds, and butterflies. The trees have adapted to living in an open, bright, ever-changing environment. This shawl uses lace patterns that become more open to mimic leaves becoming sparse and eventually breaking free into a view of the open air.
In life, we’ve overcome adversities, used mistakes as stepping stones, and risen again after our falls. We’ve broken through, achieved, and found contentment. We’ve accomplished many goals, so what’s next? The universe works in mysterious ways, and as long as we’re still here, we have purpose. There’s still meaning in our living; our story still needs to be shared.
Getting caught up in the process of discovering life’s purpose distracts us from living life actively with purpose. Pay attention in the everyday to the signs of discovering your passion-filled purposes – an uncontainable grin, a spark lighting up your eyes, a rush of excited energy, a shiver that runs deep through to your bones. Live with intention and presence until the day you find yourself fulfilled from seizing life’s opportunities and breaking free into the light.

Construction & Schematic

Construction

Into The Light is worked top-down from the top edge (neck & shoulders) to the bottom edge. A garter tab cast on is used to begin the shawl, and a garter edge is worked along the top edge throughout the project. The body of the shawl is knit in lace patterns and increases along 8 lines to create a deep crescent shape that is easy-to-wear and hugs the shoulders. The shawl is bound off with a Russian bind off, which allows the bound off edge to stretch during blocking.
